Exposure to Heavy Metals and Environmental Health in Korean
Date & Time Wednesday, June 17 (13:00 ~ 18:00)
Venue Samda A
Organizer Korean Society of Environmental Health (KSEH)
Participants KSEH Members and non-members
Objectives There have been changes in environmental attitudes focusing health effects of environmental pollution rather than controlling pollution in Korea. Especially multiple industrial, domestic, agricultural, medical and technological applications of heavy metals have led to their wide distribution in the environment, raising concerns over their potential effects on human health and the environment. Their toxicity depends on several factors including the dose, route of exposure, and chemical species, as well as the age, gender, genetics, and nutritional status of exposed individuals. Because of their high degree of toxicity, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury rank among the priority metals are of public health significance. This Conference of Korean Society of Environmental Health (KSEH) will be presented and discussed focusing on exposure to heavy metals in relation to Korean National Environmental Health Survey, integrated risk assessment, residents near industrial complex, health concern of people living near abandoned mines and so on.
